Joined the project team to help complete design development and working drawings for the, respectively, 67,000 sq.ft and 24,000 sq.ft expansions to Havergal College’s upper and junior schools, built originally in 1926 on a wooded, ravine-side campus in midtown. Brick, stone, and copper were selected for the cladding to harmonize with the existing edifices and glulam was used for the exposed structures, to stylistically converse with the heavy timber used in the roof of the Gothic Revival assembly hall. The additions, which were certified LEED Gold, contain a variety of spaces, clustered according to the age of the students who use them, and include a dining hall, multi-purpose rooms, music rooms, classrooms, and laboratories.

Helped foster this project through the concept design and design development phases. As well as aiming for a LEED Gold certification, the university placed importance on deriving inspiration from Manitoba’s Indigenous cultures, which eventually manifested in a layering and texturing of the facade in ways inspired by woven items, specifically quillwork. A strong emphasis has also been placed on flow and connectivity; of the building to its immediate context, as well as the wider University of Manitoba campus.

Worked on the design and detailing of the ground floor and streetfronts of this 17 storey, 500,000 sq.ft, LEED Gold certified tower, including integrated existing historic buildings, which, along with other 19th century structures in the surrounding St Lawrence Market neighbourhood, informed the design of the centre’s lower facades. The building enmeshes itself further into the urban fabric with a through-block public arcade, open 24 hours per day and giving access to public parking, as well as retail facing King, Berkeley, and Front Streets and the thoughful concealment of loading docks and meters. The mass of the tower itself is broken up into 10 stacked, offset “blocks”.

Surveyed the sites’ three existing buildings and prepared drawings thereof as the first steps in the renovations to create retail, dining, and office spaces. Thereafter, assisted with concept design, design development, and working drawings, setting out the requested spaces within the fixed shells and opening up floors, including to create a new suspended feature stair for the main tenant’s offices and a streetfront, double-height volume for a store. On the exterior, detailed the insertion of new windows, soffits, and sills (one of which became a new stone public bench). as well as the redo of an entrance stair and addition of a rooftop patio/outdoor event space; penhouses for access, washrooms, and emergency exiting; and screens to conceal HVAC equipment.

After aiding in production of the winning competition submission for this LEED Gold project, helped develop the design of, and created working drawings for, the podium green roof, in consultation with engineers and product suppliers. Participated in finalizing the form, spatial arrangement, and materials of the various other elements over the 10 ac site and parking garage below, including creating images for presentation to city committees and council. The monumental stage roof's profile was a particular challenge, as was soundly fusing new and existing structures. Performed construction management for the stage and redesigned the parking entrance pavilion as a beacon situated prominently at the main entrance to the plaza.
